 Nov. 30 - Faculty & Friends Concert Series: Samuel Cook

Lipscomb University's Faculty & Friends Concert Series presents Samuel Cook, tenor, at 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 30, in Ward Hall.

Cook is associate professor of voice and the opera director at Abilene Christian University. He is a Metropolitan Opera National winner and first place recipient at Francisco Vinas International voice competition in Barcelona, Spain. He has performed throughout the United States, South Africa, and Europe.  His accompanist is Cheryl Lemmons, staff accompanist at Abilene Christian University.  This event is free and open to the public.

"Diamonds Uncovered" CD Release

Dr. Jerome Reed, internationally known pianist and Lipscomb University's Artist-in-Residence, has released a CD in collaboration with flautist Deanna Little.  The recording was made in Lipscomb's own Ward Hall, and features flute and piano sonatas by North American composers of the 20th century, including David Diamond, Thomas Pasatieri, Emma Lou Diemer, Denis Bédard and Samuel Zyman. Professor Hughes Receives National Recognition

In September, 2009, Dr. Marcia Hughes traveled to Tampa, Florida to receive the Faculty Advisor Award of Excellence from the Professional Fraternity Association. The national award was given in recognition of her service and accomplishment as longtime advisor of Lipscomb University's Zeta Omicron chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota. Dr. Hughes spoke on her work with SAI.

Rhodes’ History of the Wind Band fills academic niche

09/25/2009 - Rhodes’ History of the Wind Band is available digitally on the Lipscomb web site, providing broad access to this important work for undergraduate and graduates students interested in the history and development of the modern wind ensemble. This comprehensive history captures the evolution of the wind band from its medieval beginnings through the 20th century repertoire. Dr. Rhodes is Professor of Music at Lipscomb University and director of the University Wind Ensemble.

Lipscomb University hosted the Fine Arts Summer Academy July 10-26, 2009. 

The Fine Arts Summer Academy (FASA) is a summer intensive program for young artists. The academy concentrates on the students' technical development with an emphasis on application through on-stage, performing experiences. Hosted by Lipscomb's Department of Music in collaboration with the Annie Moses Band, the Fine Arts Summer Academy was held in the Thomas James McMeen Music Center and other venues on the Lipscomb campus. Rehearsal Hall Named in Honor of Buddy and Bernie Arnold

Lipscomb University has honored the late Buddy Arnold, known as one of Lipscomb’s most influential faculty members by generations of Lipscomb students, and his wife, Bernie Arnold, by dedicating the rehearsal hall in the Thomas James McMeen Music Center in their honor and establishing the Buddy and Bernie Arnold Scholarship in Theater.

Music Class of 2011 Passes Grade 5 Theory Exam

Congratulations to Lipscomb's Class of 2011 music majors, all of whom passed the Grade 5 Theory Exam administered by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. This exam is required as preparation for the Grade 8 Practical Exam, a performance-oriented examination that admits the student to candidacy for the ABRSM Diploma.  These students will be the second Lipscomb class of music graduates to receive the ABRSM Diploma as the capstone of their undergraduate education. All members of the Class of 2010 also passed the exam last year. Lipscomb University is the first music school in the United States to offer this internationally-recognized Diploma to its graduates.

11/8/2008 - Lipscomb University honored past President Steve Flatt Friday, Nov. 7, with the dedication of the Steve & Patsi Flatt Amphitheater, one of the newest facilities on campus. The University Jazz Ensemble provided lively music for the occasion.

 

Dedication Day celebrates four new campus facilities in music, pharmacy, housing

8/27/2008 - Lipscomb University’s Dedication Day, Tuesday, Aug. 26, kicked off the fall 2008 semester with a marathon of ribbon-cuttings, receptions and tours to celebrate almost $21 million in new green construction on campus. The Thomas James McMeen Music Center opened in the fall semester of 2008.
